Made by hand from sheesham (rosewood) and plainly polished, in the Sillanwali Handicrafts workshop in Sillanwali, Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. It measures Rack 14 in wide. It costs PKR 1,800. A wall rack fourteen inches wide with seven wooden cooking tools hanging from it — spatula, ladles, a slotted spoon and a skimmer among them. Every tool is cut and shaped from solid sheesham and sanded rather than lacquered, so nothing can flake into food and the handles do not become slippery when wet. The practical case for wood is the same one every cook knows: it will not scratch a non-stick tawa or a coated pan, and it does not conduct heat, so a spoon left resting in a hot degchi stays cool enough to pick up. Each tool has a hole drilled through the handle and hangs from its own peg on the rack. The rack screws to the wall and puts everything within reach of the stove, which is the difference between using wooden tools and leaving them in a drawer while you reach for the steel ones. Made in Sillanwali, Sargodha, and cut individually, so grain and colour vary across the set. Wash the tools by hand in warm water and dry them straight away rather than leaving them to soak, and rub in a little food-safe oil now and then to keep the wood from drying and splitting. Never put them in a dishwasher.

Every piece is made by hand, so the wood grain, carving and colour vary a little from the photo. That variation is normal and is what makes each one its own.
