Lacquer Table Lamps — Star Pattern, Metal Stem (Pair)

About this piece

Lacquer Table Lamps — Star Pattern, Metal Stem (Pair): A pair of tall lamps on slim metal stems. Made by hand from sheesham (rosewood) and coloured lac and metal base and fittings and finished in naqshi lac, the pattern scratched back through the colour, in the Sillanwali Handicrafts workshop in Sillanwali, Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan. It costs PKR 11,000 for the pair — two matching pieces. It is ready to ship and delivered within 3 to 4 days anywhere in Pakistan, paid in cash on delivery.

A pair of taller lamps: lacquered wooden bodies scattered with a fine star pattern, raised on a slim metal stem and a disc foot so they read lighter in a room than the standard lamp. The stem is what changes the piece. A lamp that sits straight on its own turned foot has visual weight at the bottom; lifting the same body on a narrow metal stem puts air under it, so it takes up height without taking up presence — useful on a console already crowded with things, or on a bedside table too small for a wide base. The body is turned on the khraad and lacquered while it spins, and the stars are cut through the colour individually with the sathrī, the iron tool that opens the furrow, scattered by eye rather than set on a grid, which is why they fall differently on every lamp. Sold as a pair, worked in the same run so the scatter and the colour depth are consistent across the two. Made in Sillanwali, Sargodha. Supplied with the metal base and fitting. Dust with a soft dry cloth, keep water and polish sprays off the lac, and keep them out of direct sunlight.

Every piece is made by hand, so the wood grain, carving and colour vary a little from the photo. That variation is normal and is what makes each one its own.
