Short answer: the Hand-Carved Jewellery Box Set of 3 is three solid sheesham boxes in graduated sizes, about 10 x 6, 8 x 5 and 6 x 4 inches, each carved on the lid and all four sides and closed with a small brass clasp. The large box holds a full set, the medium takes everyday pieces and the small one keeps a single keepsake. The set costs PKR 10,500.

What do you get in the set?

  • A large box, about 10 x 6 inches.
  • A medium box, about 8 x 5 inches.
  • A small box, about 6 x 4 inches.
  • Each one roughly 3 to 4 inches deep, with its own brass clasp.

The boxes are left in a natural polish, with no stain and no lacquer, so what you see is the sheesham itself. Because each box is cut and carved by hand, the measurements vary a little from piece to piece. The inside of each box is left plain and smooth, so nothing catches on a chain or a stone.

How should you use each size?

  • Large: a full set kept together, such as a necklace with matching bangles and earrings.
  • Medium: everyday rings, studs and a watch on a dressing table.
  • Small: a single keepsake, a special ring or a small piece you want to keep safe.

Since every box closes on its own clasp, they don't have to live together. You can keep the large one in a cupboard for occasion jewellery and the small one by the bed for what you wear daily.

What should you look for in the hand carving?

Each box is carved across the lid and on all four sides in a running floral vine. The carving is cut freehand with chisel and gouge, not pressed by machine. The carver works outward by eye, so the depth changes slightly across a lid and the vine never repeats exactly.

Look for the grain running under the carving and showing through it, and for carving that continues round the sides. That is what takes the time: a box carved only on top looks plain the moment it is picked up. It is also why the three boxes read as one family rather than three copies.

Hand-carved sheesham: how it's made and cared for

Is it a good gift?

A graduated set works well as a gift because it is useful from day one and lasts for years. Some ideas:

  • A bridal gift, with room for wedding sets in the large box.
  • A gift for a mother or a daughter, to keep her pieces in one place.
  • An Eid or occasion gift for someone setting up a new home.
  • A family gift you split, giving one box each to two or three people.

How do you care for carved wood and brass?

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Use a soft brush to lift dust out of the carving.
  • Keep the boxes away from damp and out of direct sunlight.
  • Wipe the brass clasps with a dry cloth to keep them bright.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy the boxes separately?

Do the boxes have lining?
No. The product page says the inside of each box is left plain and smooth wood, so nothing catches on a chain or a stone.
Are the three boxes the same design?
They share the same running floral vine carving, but each is carved freehand, so the pattern and depth vary a little. The set is meant to look like one family rather than three copies.
How much is shipping?
At the time of writing, the product page shows standard shipping of PKR 400 added to your total.
