Each lamp body is turned from sheesham on the khraad, the lathe. The lac is melted on by friction while it spins, layer over layer, and the pattern is opened by hand with the sathri. Each lamp comes with the shade shown, a metal base and the fitting.
When the lamps are lit, light from the shade falls across the worked surface and the cut lines take the shadow, so the pattern looks deeper in the evening.
The symmetrical bedside
The simplest bedroom layout is also one of the calmest: one lamp on each side of the bed, at the same height, on matching surfaces. The pair gives you that balance straight away.

The table top is cut into a radiating naqshi pattern in green and yellow, with brass detailing at the edge. Green over yellow means the deepest cuts come up yellow and the shallow ones stay green, which gives the top its depth.
Next to patterned lamps, it helps to keep the rest of the bedside simple. Plain bedding and curtains in white, cream or a soft neutral let the naqshi on the lamps and the table take the lead without the room feeling busy.
